The Court in Kisumu has quashed the victory of the Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti. The nullification of the victory comes after candidate Oyugi Magwanjwa petitioned crying over irregularities in the gubernatorial elections.

Judge Joseph Karanja, sitting in Homa Bay, on Tuesday found the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) did not conduct a free and fair election.

The case had been filed by Mr Awiti's challenger and independent candidate Oyugi Magwanga.

Mr Magwanga, who cited massive irregularities in the poll in the petition, provided enough evidence, according to Justice Karanja.

The court order IEBC to conduct a repeat election that meets the threshold set in the Constitution and election laws.

The Court has ordered IEBC to set a date for another election. The by-election will need fresh nominations and other candidates are also highly encouraged to get into the race.
