Kenya Ferry services have been doomed after their ferries stuck and washed away by tides at Likoni channel and dock at the Florida, lighthouse. The Kenya ferry services workers said the cause of the problems were high tides and inflow of drainage from Mombasa Town.

Kenya Ferry Services MD Bakari Ngowa said they will only offer services to passengers.

Kenya Red Cross via twitter had announced that all services had been suspended.

"Ferry services suspended until 1000hrs due to high tides. Anticipate delays," Kenya Red Cross said via twitter.

Earlier, the oldest ferry MV Nyayo was pushed by heavy tides off the Likoni channel towards the deep sea with commuters on board.

Now the ferries are pushed and assisted by the Navy speed boats to carry people from Likoni to Mombasa island. The officials at Likoni have said they will suspend all operations at the channel later today if the situation does not improve.
