Catholic leader Pope Francis has approved the appointment of Kitale Bishop Maurice Crowley to oversee church activities in Eldoret following the death of Cornelius Korir.

Korir died from diabetes and high blood pressure on October 30 and was buried on November 11

Pope's representative to Kenya, Archbishop Charles Daniel Balvo, noted it may take time to find the right person because of the nature of the process.

"I now have the major task of looking for a new bishop. It will not be easy but crawley can still stand with the church for sometime," said Balvo.

He noted Korir was praised as a national peacemaker and fighter for human rights and justice.

Pope Francis paid attributes through his Kenyan representative and Bishop Maurice Crowley will move to Eldoret soon. The appointment was said to have an immediate effect.
