Two cabinet secretaries arrested for graft cases. Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala and Water Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui will spend a day behind bars for corruption case.
DCI boss George Kinoti and his counterpart DPP Noordin Hajji have opened files for both participating in irregular contract awarding.
Tourism Balala was involved in an irregular contract awarded in 2017 to American Society of Travel Agents through direct procurement and an irregular authorisation of Sh 100 million sponsorship of ASTA expo at Kenyatta International Convention Centre in February 2017.
Water CS Simon Chelugui who narrowly escaped first arrest over the Arror~Kimwarer dam scandal,has been arrested by anti-corruption sleuths over the Sh35.69 billion Itare Dam project in Nakuru which has since stalled after Italian contractor CMC di Ravenna in 2018 filed for bankruptcy after being paid Sh11 billion.
The Itare Dam which was to competed by 2022, was intended to supply water to Kericho, Bomet and Nakuru counties.
The arrests comes after Kiambu Governor and his family spent 3 days behind bars over the same irregular tender awarding.
