The Ministry of education has shut down 15 schools in Mau Forest.  The private schools which have not been registered were set up in areas targeted in the second phase of evictions in the Mau Forest. 


" The schools are not government institutions and have been set up in the area illegally and we are shutting them down." Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya said in a press briefing on Wednesday.



He pointed out that the 15 centers have been profiting from schools gazetted and legally ascertained in the area. 

" The community centres or whatever are being called schools, are actually not registered because they had no land documents, since they are situated in a government gazetted Mau forest. They are not manner the d by the  Teachers Service Commission. , " he added. 


The schools to be closed comprises of; Kirobon Centre, Senetwet Centre, Kapsilibwo Centre, Kitoben Centre, Indianit Centre, Kabarak Centre, Noosagami Centre, Chorwet Centre, Ogilge Centre, Sebetet Centre, Olabai Centre, Koitabai Centre, Chebirbelek Centre, Chebetet Centre, and Lelechwet Centre.


The county commissioner said that some officials in his office together with the ministry of education officials will be visiting the areas named and making sure no activities going on in the centers.
