The DCI has arrested a billionaire in Nairobi for tax invasion, hoarding consumer products and initiating price fluctuations.


Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has ordered the arrest and prosecution of billionaire Humphrey Kariuki for evading Sh41 billion tax through Africa Spirits and Wines of the World (WoW) Beverages where he holds major stakes.

Kariuki is to be prosecuted alongside three directors of WoW Beverages Limited, four others from Africa Spirits Limited and a driver said to be an accomplice.


According to the reports, the billionaire has been evading the Kenya Revenue Authority since 2014. The company has been importing products using backdoor means and in 2017 the KRA accumulated all the tax charged to the company.


The Billionaire was fined 5 Million and the case will be had in October 2019. The others were released with similar bonds.
