Over 200 census enumerators in Kilifi down tools over unpaid allowances. The enumerators are camping in Mtwapa demanding to be addressed by the Census officials as well as their grievances be handled.

The enumerators said that the KNBS officials have neglected them despite the numerous promises they made.

"We were to be given commuter allowance as they said. No credit, no commuter allowance, No training allowance, meaning we have been given the tools to use only, how you'll use them is like its none of their business," says one enumerator who sought to be anonymous for security reasons.

"Some have been working without even supervision. If you have a problem and you want to report, the supervisor is nowhere to be seen, " the enumerator added.

Our efforts for reaching the officials were in vain. The complaints came after the Interior Ministry failed to pay Huduma number registration assistants their last phase.

Some of the enumerators claim that the census payment will be in phases like Huduma number according to their source clues.

"Some of us were in Huduma Namba, we have not been paid fully, now we are in Census without payments, " the enumerator shouted.
