Sportpesa withdrew sponsorship of the Kenya Premier League. Gor Mahia FC and AFC Leopards FC sponsorship have also been withdrawn.
Sportpesa CEO Ronald Karuri said the decision reached after broad consultations.
"We have withdrawn the sponsorship because of the issues everybody knows. The government will sponsor them I think and we talked to the FKF Nick Mwendwa President as well," he said.
“In light of these developments, we regrettably wish to announce that due to the uncertainty of this situation, SportPesa the will be cancelling sports sponsorship effective immediately,” says the firm in a press statement released Friday, August 9.
Sportpesa sponsored the Premier, Several teams and local general sports. The withdrawal of Sportpesa is a big blow to sports in Kenya.
