Widowed, Single Women to be re-married to reduce Street Kids and prostitution in Kisumu City -Kisumu county government

The county government of Kisumu wants all widowed and single Women be re-married. The increase in streets kids, Roaming slay queens and prostitution in the city has led to the county government taking an action.



Kisumu county government through the Ministry of Health wants all Widowed to be re-married either to the single men or Married men in the city or inherited as it is in their culture.



According to the County minister, Dr Rosemary Obara said single mothers similarly will have to attach themselves with Men in the Area to reduce the menace.


"Women should find businesses to do as well as be independently in those relationships. The county government will provide a special allocation for the single mothers and widows in the area to boost their economic status, " she said.


" The rate of Prostitution, raping single women and HIV infection has increased due to various factors including lack of husbands and dads in the county. I urge all married women to be accommodative to reduce the rates, " she added.


The Nyanza region is among the AIDS engulfed areas in the country. The highest-rated areas in the region include; Homabay, Siaya and Kisumu.
