DPP Nordin Hajji is set to drop charges against Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko. The DPP said he feels like not pursuing the case as earlier stated. Business at the City has been frustrated. Some county government functions stopped.

The DPP statement comes after the Coast regional commander Yakub Rashid withdrew his assault case against Mike Sonko at Voi law courts. After the DPP failed to stop Nairobi governor Mike Sonko naming his deputy, Mr Hajji has directed his prosecutors to stop new plans in regards to the graft case against the Governor.

It almost two months when the governor was accused of conspiracy to commit corruption, conflict of interest, failure to comply with procurement laws, unlawful acquisition of public property and money laundering.

in December 2019, Magistrate Douglas Ogoti said the bail ruling took into account the presumption of innocence. Mike Sonko was released on a bond of KES 30 Million with one surety of a similar amount and a cash bail of KES 15 million.
