The Sh2.3 billion Baricho bridge (D553) construction stalled. The approach road from Baolala to Langobaya constructed by a Chinese contractor is almost complete.

The home of Kenyan ambassador to Tanzania Dan Kazungu the Chinese constructor said that the government has cut down the cost and could not continue with the construction as earlier stated.

" The bridge is almost complete but we cannot continue with it because of insufficient funds allocated for it, " the contractor said.

" We have workers who need their pay and machinery that needs resources to operate. We were given a circular that the government has to slash down costs for the ongoing projects for it to remain afloat, " he added.

Already the contractor has completed tarmacking six kilometres of the approach road from Baolala to Langobaya.

All eyes on the government to save the situation through Kenya Rural roads authority (KeRRA). The contractor said talks underway for finding solutions and the way forward for the community project.
