Thousands of people are facing job losses as Mada Hotel Chain restructures. According to reports, Mada hotels chain is in the process of selling some of its hotels after a crisis meeting held on 28th December 2019.

Mada Hotels Chief Executive, Tinu Mhajan, said the Hotel chain is keen to change its structure following massive losses.

" We are not happy with these long holiday sales, unlike the previous years. We made very little. Less than 5% profit this December 2019, unlike the previous years where we would make up to 70% profit." Said the CEO.

"We are looking forward to reducing the burden. We have turned to the real estate business. Some of our hotels already transformed into apartments business, " he added.

The hotel chains have employed more than 10,000 employees in Kenya and over 30,000 employees across East Africa.

"In the process of restructuring, more than half of the employees will be retrenched in order to make value chain afloat, " the CEO stated.

Some of the hotels under Mada Chain Kenya include; Baobab resorts,  Figtree, Kilifi bay, Oakland, La Mada, Hunters lodges and Kilima safaris.
