Mombasa county to install a radiotherapy machine for the cancer patients at the Coast General and referral hospital by June 2020.
Meeting with the Coast general management, the Mombasa governor Hassan Ali Joho said plans are underway in conjunction with the National government to equip the cancer care unit.
" We are now on the final stages of importing new equipment for the Cancer Care Center. We already created a space for the equipment. This machine will help cancer patients here in the coast region. Nobody will be forced to travel to Nairobi, " the governor said.
" I had a session with Medical Consultants who work at the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital. We discussed how to better services at the hospital in order to continue providing quality services and serve more patients in the County and beyond, " he added.
" We also discussed the management of patients with highly infectious diseases and cancer care. My Government is at an advanced stage of putting up a radiotherapy center at the hospital in partnership with the National Government. This will ensure that patients suffering from cancer would get their full treatment in Mombasa and not have to travel to Nairobi for radiotherapy, " he stated.
