A Kitui-driven bus hired to ferry BBI participants to Kitui stadium that had 45 passengers on board was on Saturday morning swept into River Waani in Mbooni East, Makueni County, after the vehicle’s driver underestimated the depth of water that was flowing over a bridge across the flooded watercourse.


The passengers were, however, safely evacuated, with no injuries reported.


The travellers were headed to Kitui from Kisau in Makueni County for the Building Bridges Initiative Rally.


After being rescued, the passengers were transferred to another vehicle, which transported them to the BBI meeting venue.


Mbooni East Police Commander Agnes Omojong' confirmed the incidence however said no one was injured in the 9.30 am accident along Tawa -Itangini road.
