As Locusts hit the country from Northern to Central and Eastern Kenya, a Swarm of white butterflies and moths were spotted in Vanga moving towards the north coast region.

The country mourns the death of the longest-serving president Daniel Arap Moi as half of its regions plunges into a locust calamity.

The swarms of white butterflies and moths were spotted first on Saturday at Vanga ward, Msambweni constituency.  The white butterflies by Tuesday were at Dzombo, Lungalunga, Mwereni, Kinondo, and Diani locations.

According to the Kaya elders at Kaya Kinondo in Kwale, they said white butterflies migration is a sign of peace and harvest.

The same migration happened in the 1980s. This year's butterflies migration is larger than the past.

"  We have not seen such larger swarms of white butterflies and moths. The swarms of butterflies we saw were not as huge as the sizes we are witnessing now," said Abdalla Boga a Kaya Kinondo sacred forest elder in Kwale.

" We had such almost the size of current swarms in 1980, we had another in 1984. Recently we had small swarms of butterflies and moths in September 2015, " he added.

The County government of Kwale declined to comment on the butterfly and moth migration. They actually ignored saying butterflies and moths are harmless compared to the desert locusts.
