Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua says his county government is in the process of acquiring equipment for fighting locusts before they hit the county in full force.

" I have this morning held a meeting with my Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Urbanus Musyoka and the Agriculture Chief Officer, Ms. Damaris Mativo to discuss the locust situation in Machakos Country, " he said.

" We have been actively involved in managing the locust invasion from the word go and have officers on the ground monitoring any new swarms, "

" Last evening, a swarm of locust landed in Katangi Ward of Yatta Sub County. We are coordinating for spraying to be done today, "

" Our major concern is that the swarms are mating and laying thousands of eggs which will soon hatch. We have agreed on a strategy, in partnership with the National Government, to spray the eggs. National Government will be spraying on flying locusts as my county government spraying the billions of locusts eggs laid, " he added.

" In the meantime, my government is in the process of procuring our own chemicals and machines for spraying, so that we can always be one step ahead of the locusts, " he stated.

" I assure my people of Machakos, that I am personally coordinating this effort to combat the swarms of locusts and we will be successful, " he concluded.
