UN agencies in Nairobi closed. The employees will be working from home. Nairobi houses the United Nation Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nation Human Settlements Programme commonly known as Habitat. Several UN regional offices also operate from the Kenyan capital. UN headquarters holds 4,600 employees at the Gigiri complex.
Supermarkets have also taken a step further to not to risk their employees by wearing gloves and masks. They have maintained a one-metre distance between with the customers.
Some are buying the masks from supermarkets and reselling them.
“Every customer will be allowed to buy a maximum of three packs of products. A few entrepreneurial customers have been taking advantage of the Covid-19 panic to buy particular items in bulk and reselling them,” Tuskys Supermarket chief executive Dan Githua said.
“When in self-quarantine, one should be in a well-ventilated room. If not, maintain a distance of at least a metre from other family members, minimise the use of shared spaces and cutlery and ensure shared spaces – kitchen and bathroom – are well-ventilated,” WHO says in its guidelines.
