Multichoice Nigeria and Kenya, owners of DSTV, GOTV and the owners of Startimes, among other satellite TV providers, urged to extend the subscription of their subscribers for the next two or three months during the period of COVID-19 pandemic. The subscribers say that this should be their contributions towards the fight of the naval coronavirus disease.

Already in Nigeria, Some ministers have taken to task on the pay to air television companies to help citizens not to worry because looking for cash to subscribe channels will not be easy during this difficult season.

“As one of the Ministers entrusted with the welfare of Nigerian workers, I politely urge @DstvNg & @Startimes_Ng to extend all existing subscriptions by at least one month, free of charge as their contribution to easing the pains of Nigerian workers at this time of lockdown,” Minister of State for Labour and Employment Festus Keyamo said.

He also urged the ”@MTNNG, @9mobileng, @AirtelNigeria, and @Gloworld to consider giving Nigerians some token airtime and data, to ease their pains and to ensure that communication with individuals and authorities is ensured in cases of emergencies, especially when toll-free numbers are busy.”

In Kenya, Netizens urged Safaricom, Airtel, Telkom Kenya, Gotv, DSTV, Startimes and Netflix to provide at least three months extended subscription to its customers as a way of helping those who are in self-quarantine and in curfew to get free entertainment and News coverage during this difficult season as well as Tripple or double data for telecoms companies.

" Most Kenyans will not be able to access entertainment services because now they are focusing on basic needs. Food, water, Rent. We even want the landlords to forgo at least two months to help Kenyans stay at home, " a ministry of labour official in Kenya said.
