Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho pleads with the companies, organisations and other corporate in Mombasa to help in the event of a total lock-down. Already the county Government of Mombasa has allocated Sh 200 Million as an emergency fund. The County is targeting Sh 700 Million in the emergence kit.

Working with the Mombasa county commissioner, Governor Joho added that centres will be set in preparations of Lock-down if it happens. The Governor, however, added that some constituencies within the county have boosted the kit.


The Sh 200 Million will be used to distribute food and other basic needs. Already Mombasa Maize Millers and Grain bulk handlers boss Mohamed Jaffer promise help in the case of a total lock-down.


Grain-bulk boss, Gulf Bank boss, Mombasa Cement boss, Lafarge among others promised to double the fund in case of total lock-down in Mombasa.

Mombasa has a high population of people who work on daily wages. Total lockdown will mean dying in their respective houses. The Governor has urged people to remain calm as the government work on the virus pandemic.

He also reminded Kenyans to make washing hands regularly a tradition as the President Uhuru Kenyatta said at the statehouse. Mombasa county has approximately 274,000 people.


" I have just called Gov. Hassan Ali Joho after his press conference on the Corona Virus preparedness for Mombasa County and I commended him and the administration for being proactive on this issue," said former Mombasa Gubernatorial Aspirant Suleiman Shahbal.

" I also promised that I would do everything to support his efforts to arrange food assistance for those who will be affected by the shutdown. I have also spoken to the Managing Director of Gulf African Bank and we have agreed to provide funds to help with the food drive. I urge all people of goodwill to come out now and support this drive to arrange for food supplies. The time is NOW. Please do the right thing, " he added.
