Fearless residents of Laare town, Meru County on Sunday night raided a newly posted police commander and unarmed him of his official firearm.


The criminals alleged that Chief Inspector Mathew Chelimo, who was newly assigned to the Laare police station, was hindering with their undisclosed operations within the town.


The men set an ambush for the station commander who had gone to Kisima Mbaine hotel within the town for dinner. As the OCS was leaving the hotel, which is about 1km from the station, the men armed with crude weapons stabbed him.

Chelimo struggled with them but he was defeated by the men who took his firearm, a Jericho pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.
