NHIF Scam; NHIF with new Sh 50 Billion scam, a pharmacy received Sh63 Million in 24 Months

NHIF has milked Kenyans dry as officials flying with choppers and constructing apartments across the country. A receptionist or secretary at the NHIF owns high-end cars with a multi-Million homes.


Detectives now investigate Sh 50 billion that got lost at the government insurance fund.


The big four agenda which Health is among is already at its knees. The government, however, has failed to deal with corruption.


Investigations are underway to establish how Bridges Medical Centre raked in more than Sh63 million in capitation fees between mid-2016 and November 2019 from NHIF. The clinic was upgraded this year, January, but it used to be a Pharmacy.


The clinic has 531 registered clients from a government agency, earning it close to Sh6 million every three months, how is this possible.


With NHIF’s new rules aimed at contributors and their dependents, there is a likelihood that most Kenyans, especially those in the informal sector, will be discouraged from joining the fund.


However, detectives have been investigating a possible loss of Sh50 billion at the scheme. Suspended chief executive Geoffrey Mwangi and finance director Wilbert Kurgat are facing charges in court.

The money was paid in premiums to NHIF by the National Treasury as capitation for group life cover and last expense for civil servants, the Kenya Police Service, National Youth Service and Kenya Prisons Service.

In Bungoma, three private facilities are being investigated on allegations of inflating bills amounting to Sh 100 Million and colluding with patients to defraud NHIF funds.


At KPC the situation is not different. Officials swim on the cash from fake, illegal and 'air' tenders.
