Chinese investor flee after Migori residents storm his mining site alleged land fraud

Migori residents overran a gold mine over land grabbing allegations, forcing a government official and the Chinese investor to escape.
The Chinese investor decamped while armed police observed helplessly as local gold miners in Masara attacking the site.

The residents alleged that the land in which the Chinese investor constructed the mine was fraudulently acquired from locals through the local administration.

John Riana, the family spokesperson, exposed that hostility between the two parties halted dialogue.

"The land was sold to a mining company, managed by the Chinese. We have not been able to reach these people because of hostilities. People who acquired the land have not been willing to listen to any complaints from the family. Graves are there and as you know, mining involves a lot of blasting which has interfered with the gravesites," he said.

Mr Duncan Ndiro, one of the grandsons, was annoyed by how the land was sold and claimed that the chief duped them in collaboration with the Chinese.

Mr Duncan Ndiro wanted Migori County Department of Environment to tell how they presented the Chinese national with a mining permit. They said the sequence of the land transaction and the sale agreement happened on the same day and asked for an explanation from the chief.
