Kenyans in slums who lack food and domestic essentials have now turned to laundry on the used face masks and sell them at a cheaper price. In Nairobi, Mathare and Kibra slums, women travel to nearby hospitals and dumpsite to collect used facemasks.

Hunger and lack of daily waged casual labour forces mothers in the slums to look for alternatives. They have been sourcing used facemasks from different hospitals and dumpsites.

The masks have been redistributed across the streets of Nairobi for them to get food to put on the table. The residents urged the government to speed up food distribution before things start to get out of hand.

Several people have been rescued by a good samaritan in their houses starving. They said some could start dying in the next two weeks if nothing will be done.

Women move to dump sites to look for anything that can be recycled so that they can sell and feed their families.

Some are arguing to have some connections with Mbagathi hospital, Mathare hospital, Kenyatta National Hospital among others where they get the used masks for free.
