Food distribution in Mombasa started yesterday. The relief food distribution started with Kongowea ward led by the Redcross chairman Mahmoud Noor.

The food distribution will be a door to door exercise. In partnership with Mombasa county administration led by County Police commander Augustine Nthumbi, Redcross with ward volunteers will move from door to another from one ward to another.

The door to door food distribution comes after allegations that the village elders were biased in the registration exercise. Some village elders blocked some people from registering citing that the food was meant for coastal based natives.

Mombasa county however set aside Sh 200 Million but with a budget of Sh 700 Million that was to be sourced from well-wishers and county partners.

The county already has 72 cases of the naval virus. The cases are expected to rise to 240 with the four matrices given by the health CS Mutahi Kagwe during the daily briefing in the next 14 days as mass testing processes underway.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho proposes total lockdown to contain the virus-like how other countries are doing.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho

" The Government is planning to do mass testing, then people are still moving around re-infecting. The State needs to come up with strict measures to contain the virus and that will be the only way the country will get back to work as soon as possible, " the Governor added.
