Nairobi MPs team up with the National Emergency Response Committee in food distribution

Nairobi MPs have teamed up in food distribution in their respective constituencies. The Nairobi Legislators Babu Owino(Embakasi East), Charles Kanyi(Starehe), Timothy Wanyonyi(Westlands),  George Theuri(Embakasi west), Bernard Imran Okoth(Kibra), Benjamin Gathiru Mwangi (Embakasi Central) and Yusuf Hassan(Kamukunji) have teamed up in procuring food and distributing to their respective constituencies.

According to the National Disaster Management Unit, the legislators have been allowed to distribute food together with officials in the disaster management and county administrators.


The National Emergency Response Committee says the food received will be distributed equally in all counties in Kenya. However, they warned politicians who will be found distributing food without County administrators.

Embakasi East Mp Babu Owino said he has forfeited all his salary to food distribution and coronavirus fight.  He said the majority of people in Embakasi east have no jobs now and they solely depend on the national government efforts.

His words were seconded by the Westlands Mp Tim Wanyonyi. Hon Tim added that food distribution is essential to all families.

" Those who were employed are now at home. The majority have no money to feed themselves. Their savings are blinking red or finished. The Government must move in to save the situation. We are trying but the Government backup will help much on the people. We do a hood to hood distribution, " he added.
