County officials and Nyeri MCA arrested at a bar past curfew hours. The Police acted swiftly after a tip from the public.  Almost 17 officials and bar attendants were arrested.

17 people including Rware Ward MCA Paul Kanyari, his assistant and county officials were arrested on Friday evening inside a bar in Nyeri County.


Confirmed by the Nyeri Central Sub-County Police Commander Paul Kuria, the group was rounded up at a guest house with a bar known as Laquizine in King’ong’o area having drinks.


The police commander said they were signalled by citizens in the area as the revellers were mocking a directive for the closure of all bars across the country amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The culprits will be prosecuted then constrained to a forced 14-day quarantine at their own cost.

It is asserted that other officials who accompanied the MCA escaped arrest but the police boss said they are processing of establishing the names and further arrest them.

The police commander urged the public to be alert and give volunteer information to the police on members of public violating COVID-19 safety regulations.
