It is recorded that the two women in their mid-30s died as a result of suffocation after they were caught in the stampede. One died at a Nairobi hospital where she was receiving treatment after severe injuries.

Kibra police boss Andrew Musaisi said the women died a few hours after leaving the distribution centre while another died in the hospital receiving treatment.

It is reported that they sustained internal injuries and died while being rushed to a hospital for medical care. The food distribution turned chaotic after they were told to queue despite the first attempt of the door to door distribution.

Several people were also injured in the skirmish.

Good Samaritans had given donations of foodstuffs through the office of the deputy county commissioner.
