WhatsApp a Facebook subsidiary has agreed that there is a security flaw within the app that allowed hackers to access people’s messages by sending a malicious video file or embedded files.

The Facebook-owned messaging app posted a security advisory about bugs, which makes the app vulnerable to attacks.

However, the messaging app bosses maintain that they are in constant development to make the App safe.

The news come after a named CVE-2019-11931, which affects earlier versions of the app on both Android and iOS devices.

The advisory described the issue as a “stack-based buffer overflow,” that could trigger dangerous code through sending a “specifically crafted MP4 file or an embedded file to a WhatsApp user”.

Attacks on the App have reduced significantly to due constant updates and patches.
