Police in Tanzania arrested two journalists from Kenya after they were found on Saturday, interviewing members of public on the Coronavirus situation in Tanzania.


Longido District Commissioner Frank Mwaisumbe confirmed the detentions, the two were in their country illegally.


Mwaisumbe said they could not provide documentation as required by the law of the land.


The officer said the journalists are confined at Longido Police Station and will be arraigned in court when the investigations are complete.


However, Victor Bwire, the Head of Media Development and Strategy at the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), said they are in the process of ascertaining the identity of the two members of the press and their employer.
