A man arrested for not wearing face mask has been charged for rape at Voi police station

Police brutality and violence cases increased each day. Police officers in Voi have arrested a young man at his garage for not wearing a face mask.


The Police officers in Taita Taveta are accused of harassing residents and attacking civilians for bribes.


According to the culprit brother Mr Lawrence Mwakio, the Police arrested him for not wearing a mask at his garage. In the process of arresting the suspect, a lady police officer slipped off a metal after stepping on it and got minor injuries.


However, the female police officer at the station pressed rape charges instead of face masks to the young man. The incident happened on Saturday afternoon.


The young man is from Werugha but stays in Voi where he is working as a mechanic.


The female police officer was accompanied by her two colleagues.


The detainees' wife has a baby, who was born on Thursday. On the day of arrest, his baby was two days old. The family demands help from the law society of Kenya(LSK) and IPOA.
