Waterbus capsize in Usenge with 15 passengers onboard

A waterbus in at the lake Victoria capsized with half passengers as indicated by the ministry of transport.

A 30-seater waterbus with 15 passengers on board on Saturday afternoon (May 2) capsized while it was heading to Mageta Island from Usenge in Siaya County.



Siaya County Police Commander, Francis Kooli, says all the 15, who were on board, were safely taken to another boat and transported ashore.

The 15 have since been taken to Mageta Health Dispensary, where they are receiving emergency care.


According to Joseph Oluoch, the captain of the waterbus cites strong winds and heavy rainfall caused the vessel to hurtle before it was hit by large waves.


The ferry, thereafter, capsized as 3 pm.
