Disaster boom like a bomb! Shoddily constructed water tank bursts. The Sh 1.7 Million water tank was constructed using wood.

Residents of Wanyororo B in Bahati, Nakuru County have challenged a local contractor of poor work after a water tank burst less than a month after its construction.

According to the residents, the 100,000-cubic litre tank collapsed on Sunday morning at around 5 am, destroying nearby crops and homes.

The project which cost Sh 1.7 million was to be officially commissioned this week by the Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui and hand it over to the locals who have been wrestling with continuing water shortages.

Kandutura Limited, the company that built the tank, is associated with a former ward representative.

One of the residents, Mary Wairimu, said she heard a loud trembling and big blast that awakened her household members from sleep.

She noted that the incident terrified locals, saying that even though no life was lost, the incident should be a wake-up call for project inspectors.
