Governor Hassan Joho and his deputy Dr William Kingi fires a hotter debate revolving around budgets allocations after their allied MCAs plan to allocate a budget for two executive residences.



Mombasa County Government now plans to spend Sh83 million in the 2020/21 financial year to construct the governor’s and deputy governor’s residences.



According to the allocations, several projects have been highlighted.




The one-year project will be undertaken at Mwakirunge ward, Kisauni, at a cost of Sh50 million to enable “efficiency on delivery of service”.



Sh33 million will be spent in the construction of Deputy Governor’s residence at Tudor area, in Mvita ward.



Details of the project are contained in the 2020/21 financial year budget proposals.



Some MCAs already have objected saying it's time to focus on rebuilding businesses and economy. They asked their colleagues to reject the budget when it is tabled in the Assembly.




The Commission for Human Rights and Justice executive director Julius Ogogoh warned that they will go to court to stop the construction of the budget is not reviewed downwards.



He is of the opinion that this year’s budget should focus on the economic recovery plan and not “misplaced priorities”.
