Starehe MP Charles Kanyi alias Jaguar speculates that the government caused recent Gikomba fire. NYS officials were destroying the reconstructed stalls that were burnt down on Thursday. In the last decade, Gikomba NIGHT fires broke out about 10 times, with 15 dying in 2018.

In his Twitter post, he claims Government involvement in the fire that saw property worth millions go down in flames.



" NYS recruits are in Gikomba right now. They're demolishing stalls that traders had reconstructed after a mysterious fire razed them on Thursday morning. GSU officers are also there protecting the recruits. Is this exercise a sign that the govt was involved in the recent fire?" he said.

" Interior PS Karanja Kibicho accompanied by NMS Director-General Badi had promised Sh10,000 compensation for each trader who had lost property during the inferno. He didn't say anything about the demolition of reconstructed stalls. These actions are, therefore, suspect and insensitive, " he added.



"I ask for an immediate halt to this exercise. NYS recruits should go home. Any security officer present in Gikomba should be there to guard the reconstructed stalls and other properties owned by traders. The govt exists to protect property. It should not oversee its destruction, " he posted.
