Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako Mwakuwona met the Kenya wildlife services in Taita Taveta county following an outcry from the Wundanyi residents over the invasion of Baboons and Monkeys who have destroying crops for long.

However, to the disappointment of the Legislator, the KWS officers only told him to give his resident their hotline number and call them when they see the wild animals.

" A joke of the year! I had asked the PS Wildlife Prof Fred Segor to find a solution to the ever-increasing problem of monkeys and baboons evading our shambas and threatening the food security of my people. 18 out of 24 meet the people tours in January raised this menace as a concern, " he said.

The legislature has been pushing for the relocation of the said wild animals, killing or Birth control. However, the KWS officials in the area had another plan.

" I received visitors at the Wundanyi office. Yes, they start very well by saying they have come in response the letter i wrote to the PS, "

" After some deliberations then they gave hotline telephone numbers saying in case we spot the primates invade our shambas to call and they will respond, "

" Alas!!! I wondered, how practical this is. I have been pushing for three things that are Birth control for these monkeys, Relocation and Killing at least half of the population, "

" This is what I expected from the ministry. But hotline, no! if they are unable to respond quickly when Elephant evades peoples crops in Kishushe and other areas, how will it be for monkeys? I will be on it again next week with the relevant offices in Nairobi. But in the meantime here are the hotline numbers. 0718 67 28 50, 0732 34 00 36 " he posted.
