As the number of Coronavirus cases increasing on a daily basis, top Politicians have secured deals to install ICU beds fully equipped including spare oxygen tanks/cylinders in the private residences.

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi and Mombasa counterpart Hassan Ali Joho have installed their private homes with extra healthy caution ICU types of equipment worth Millions.


Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o and Migori counterpart Okoth Obado have also followed suit following their health condition and increase COVID-19 numbers.


Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga Amoth reveals that their more Governors and Senators who are moving steadily to secure ICU beds in their private homes.


" There are three Governor from Nyanza already secured Sh 50 Million ICU beds in their homes. Someone told me to get one as well, but could not raise that amount in a short period, " he said.


Others including two businessmen who turned to be politicians in RiftValley, One Governor from Eastern region and two from Mt Kenya including Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.


A worker at the private firm through which the wealthy politicians sourced and installed the ICU facilities while speaking to the local paper admitted that they supplied medical gas systems, oxygen cylinders, dry air, ventilators, and patient monitors, worth up to over Sh10 million each.


The governors have also made arrangements to have a team of private doctors and nurses on standby in case any of their friends and family contract the disease, which is a prerequisite.


The ICU beds and equipment, the source from the firm which has also supplied the equipment to four counties went on to reveal, were imported from Italy and China.


Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga who double to be the brother of Health Director-General Patrick Amoth, says there are ICU beds that have been taken to Private homes instead of being in the public hospitals.


He added that his rich counterparts who can afford the facilities might have installed them as a precautionary measure due to the overstretching in the hospitals.



“It is not a must that one puts up an ICU facility, one can put up a related system because what is most important is oxygen,” noted Rasanga.
