Isaac Kibet Yego, who posted about CS Fred Matiang'i on ICU in Facebook, released on Sh 20,000 bail

An Eldoret based journalist who published false news relating to Interior CS Fred Matiang’i had tested positive of coronavirus has been freed on a Ksh.20,000 cash bail.


Isaac Kibet Yego has been in custody at the Muthaiga police station for the last four days as police investigated into the allegations.


He posted on Facebook about the news and was arrested after CS Fred Matiang'i requested through the Inspector-General Hillary Mutyambai.


Detectives from the DCI quoted section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No 5 of 2018, noting that the postings had been made with the intent of causing alarm and panic.
