Everlyne Njoki on Tuesday narrated to police how she was conned Sh 1 million and almost suffered the same amount to an alleged fraudster Garsen MP Danson Mungatana.

Military Police Unit at the Department of Defence (DoD) on Tuesday said Everlyne Njoki appeared at their offices with tender documents meant to have originated from them.

When the Military Police examined the documents, they established that they were fake.

Upon questioning, Everlyne told the military officers that a person who introduced himself as a senior military officer at DoD in charge of tenders had given her documents.

The alleged senior officer, Everlyne said, pretended that he was in a position to help her win Sh70 million cereals and construction tender.

However, he asked for a down payment of Sh1 million, an amount she said he was given on July 14, 2020.

Later, the alleged senior officer is said to have called Everlyne together with her two female companions and arranged for a meeting at Sagret Hotel scheduled for Tuesday, August 11.

At the hotel, the three women said that they found one Collins Paul Waweru who was in the company of former MP Danson Mungatana.

The former Garsen MP was introduced as the senior person who was lobbying for their tender at DoD.

However, the women trader got suspicious when Mungatana and his associate necessitated for another Sh1 million for the deal to go through.

The traders immediately notified the Military Police personnel who then contacted the police leading to the arrest of Mungatana and Waweru while still at the hotel.

The fraudsters were taken to Nairobi Police Area to record statements over the alleged fraud.
