Blood Bank officials on fire after Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) knocked their doors investigating allegations of corruption at the National Blood Transfusion Services (NBTS).

EACC investigates selling donated blood to Private entities inside and outside the country.

NBTS officials are also being investigated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over abuse of office and money laundering.

EACC wrote to NBTS director to facilitate a team of its investigators to carry out the probe expeditiously.

In the letter dated August 13, the EACC wanted the officers who will be at NBTS offices to be provided with budget submissions by departments and regional services for the financial year 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 as well as expenditures by departments during the same period among other things without fail.

“The Commission is investigating allegations of corruption in your institution. To facilitate our investigation, kindly provide us with the following original documents,” Part of the letter says.

During the period under investigation (between 2018 and 2020), the department has been headed by Dr Fridah Govedi and Dr Josephine Githaiga.
