An assembly of innovative youths won coaching and mentorship for their effective support against Coronavirus fight.


They are among the participants in the Fursa versus Virus competition which was directed to allowing youths to develop specialized counterclaims to the coronavirus pandemic.


Throughout the collaboration between public and private sectors, the competition facilitates youth to employ the internet, tender their solutions and to receive training, mentoring and financial aid.



The race was broken down into six sections including food security, education, business and economy, environment and energy, government support, and social welfare.


It was first inaugurated by the National Youth Council in conjunction with Kenya Pipeline, Royal Media Services, Huawei Technologies Kenya Limited and KCB.


The triumphant group developed an open-source offline interactive smartphone app named Plant Signal, to give farmers real-time analysis of the pest or disease that harm their crop.


Other triumphant contenders include Expan USSD, Ntaka Charcoal and Njiraini Food.


All the top four innovators will be remunerated with a training and mentorship plan by UNFPA Kenya.


Speaking at the Youth Day celebrations, President Kenyatta said the Fursa versus Virus Challenge is a force intended to promote and encourage innovative rejoinders to the pandemic.


He added that the youth are crucial to inscribing the pandemic and technology can play a significant position in touching them and sustaining them develop their resolutions.

Huawei Technologies Kenya partook in the drive-by satisfying internet costs for the whole challenge period as well as for giving 47 tablets and three laptops for the champions.


CEO of Huawei Kenya, Will Meng, said, “We believe these devices we are providing today will go a long way to fulfilling young people’s dreams”.
