Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria arrested in connection with the destructive matatu demonstrations that shook the area on Monday morning.


County Police Commander Tito Kilonzi alleged the MP was among the principal organisers of the demonstrations that obstructed business in the Central Business District (CBD).



"The MP has been detained and is at Nakuru Central Police Station. The MP was among other people my officers are tracking, he organised the furious demonstrations that disrupted business in Nakuru town," said Mr Kilonzi.


MP Gikaria was arrested minutes after attacking the county police commander's office, insisting he had been bribed to marshal security personnel to restore calm in the town.



Mr Kilonzi said the legislator was detained during the battle at his office.


Mr Gikaria was released in the evening on an Sh10,000 cash bail that his Nakuru Town West counterpart Samuel Arama paid.


 Mr Kilonzi said he ordered to report back to the police station on Friday. 


Nakuru town became turbulent as matatu operators fought police officers in running battles over Governor Lee Kinyanjui's order to lock them out of the CBD.
