Tuskys Supermarket workers strike today morning at the CBD because they have not been paid their due salaries since July 2020.
From a credible source within the Tusky Management, the three brothers who control and owning Tuskys have differed on who takes the larger share of their supermarket.
The battle has rendered empty shelves as no new stock coming.
According to Competition authority director Kariuki Wang'ombe, there is a lot of competition in Kenya.
"Supermarkets are going down due to too much competition, " Wang'ombe, CAK Director-General said.
Hundreds of Tuskys Supermarket workers took to the streets to protest salary arrears while others sacked illegally.
The demonstrators matched along the streets of Nairobi bearing banners and vuvuzelas asking the management to pay them their wages.
Some of the banners had pictures of the Giant Retailers founders written ‘Pay Us Our Money’.
“We were given termination letters, in the termination letters, there was no hint of the amount of money was deemed to paid,” wailed a demonstrator.
“They told us whether we signed the letters or not, we had already lost our jobs,” she said.
The employees further claim that the company reduced their salaries during the pandemic without their consent.
Last week the distressing chain sent home hundreds of staff members in what is named as ongoing business performance realignments.
The letter sent out to the involved employees indicated that the retailer will pay them February next year.
