Mike Sonko Chaos and drama on Monday Photos

Chaos and drama broke up on Monday as police tossed teargas canisters at MCAs associated to Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko as they assembled at Riverside for a press briefing.

The Nairobi Governor has been under siege since last week. Governor Sonko said he feels that "the system" has hit him in the back in respects to his impeachment due for determination this week.

Kicking him out of the city hall began last Thursday when the minority leader tabled a notice of impeachment at the county assembly.

The Governor is ousted based on four charges including, a gross violation of the Constitution and abuse of office.

His unwillingness to assent the Sh37.5 billion Nairobi City County Appropriation Bill, 2020 that gives Sh27.3 billion to NMS is among the disputed reasons behind his ouster.

He blames "State House cartels" who want to command the city through the Nairobi Metropolitan Services of being behind that budget.

Governor Sonko maintains that the budget was to be initiated by his executive to sail through.

“The governor is right in his assertion that 'deep state' cartels are the ones pushing for his ouster. These are the same people who want to siphon off money through NMS,” a senior City Hall officer who sought anonymity, said.
