Kapkatet Hospital in Kericho County

A terrifying drama engulfed Kapkatet Hospital in Kericho County after Peter Kiplangat Kigen, 32,  who had been wrongly carried to the hospital’s mortuary recovered consciousness.

Explained by the patient’s uncle Denis Langat, his nephew identified as Mr Kigen was raced to the facility on Tuesday morning after he collapsed at home.

His niece was experiencing a stomach illness, which rendered him losing consciousness at home, forcing his family members to rush him to the hospital.

Langat said the nurse who received the patient at the hospital carelessly checked on him before asserting him ‘dead’.

The nurse took the patient to the hospital mortuary, where he was received by the mortuary attendant, instantly, started the process of preserving his body.

The uncle says the servant cut the right leg of the patient to infuse formalin, but in the process, the patient gained consciousness and cried in pain forcing all those who were around to run for safety assuming that a dead man had ‘resurrected’.

The attendant inferred strength and immediately wheeled the patient back to the hospital casualty section where first aid was administered on him before being taken to the ward where he is recuperating.

The family of the patient is now asking for justice, accusing the hospital of negligence.

The hospital management is yet to comment on the incidence.
