ODM boss Raila Odinga with President Uhuru Kenyatta on signature collection

ODM boss Raila Odinga caught off-guard on the Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) new amendments.

President Uhuru Kenyatta fixed ODM chief Raila Odinga after an intense pressure for amending the document.

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi views documented as well as MCAs cries captured in the new document.

President Uhuru Kenyatta after a meeting with Bishops and other religious leaders, their views found its way to the document as Mr Odinga insisted that there was no room for amendments.

CoG Chair Wycliffe Oparanya said their views as Governors were on the way to the final document despite resistance from Raila Odinga close allies.

Some of the contentious proposals that the ODM chief wanted to be retained like political parties nominating Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissioners and the establishment of the police council were all dismissed.

In his recent speech, Raila pushed for political parties to nominate IEBC commissioners, the same script that has been part of his reforms agenda.

Raila praised the 2002 General Election presided over by 20 commissioners picked by political parties under the Inter-Parties Parliamentary Group (IPPG) arrangement.

He said the deal had guaranteed the “fairest election” in Kenyan history.

“There is nobody who is neutral. Even if you give the Pope a ballot, he will go out there and vote for somebody... they [commissioners] will be counter-checking each other and political parties will consult with each other,” Raila said.

“Those of you who have been around will agree that the most fair elections were held in 2002. The 10 commissioners appointed by [President Daniel] Moi were being counter-checked by those appointed by opposition parties,” he added.
