Cop Boniface Maobi was identified as the Police Officer behind Bramwel Chakunza, 28, murder -Kisii

Kisii county man who died after being assaulted by Police officers for violating Curfew, succumbed to abdominal injuries as indicated in the Postmortem. 

Bramwel Chakunza, the 28-year-old man who died on Tuesday, December 22, succumbed to abdominal injuries caused by blunt force trauma, a postmortem conducted on Thursday, December 24, has designated.



Chakunza, who has a cell phone repair kiosk in Kisii Town, was assailed by police officers on Saturday, December 19.


After the Police attacks, Chakunza was raced to Nyanchwa Adventist Mission Hospital, where he died.


His body was later taken to Kisii County Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue, where a post-mortem was conducted on Thursday.


Pathologists Dr Benjamin Ndibile and Dr J.N Ombuya said the examination showed that Chakunza’s stomach burst and a lot of blood sealed in the abdominal cavity.

The autopsy additional indicated that Chakunza’s pancreas was damaged.


Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) on Thursday afternoon conducted an identification parade, where one of the Police Officers, who mercilessly assaulted Chakunza, was positively identified by members of the public.


The key suspect was recognised as Police Constable Boniface Maobi, who administered out the attack on the deceased at the Kisii Central Police Station.


Initial examinations showed that Maobi kicked Chakunza in the abdomen, resulting in the detainee collapsing.

Maobi’s colleagues, who returned to the station from patrol, are said to have followed Maobi in attacking the fainted Chakunza.

All that while, Chakunza was lying on the floor unconscious as the cops stepped on him in turns.

The Cop was earlier posted at the Muthaiga Police Station in Nairobi.


It was stated that while at the city police post, he attacked a female university student in a bar.

The Police Officer was examined and discovered to be guilty by the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU).

Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua ordered that severe disciplinary action be taken against him.

However, it remains unclear on how the punishment settled before Maobi’s transfer from Muthaiga Police Station to Kisii Central Police Station.


The Director of Internal Affairs Unit (IAU), Mohammed Amin, is supervising the scrutiny against Maobi.
