“The Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho suddenly confronted me with the youth numbering about 50. He suddenly punched me, I fell, hurting my knees in the process,” the MP said.

The MP professedly told the police that the youths were armed with knives and other blunt objects and were on a mission to harm him.

Ali has been among political leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto who campaigned for Feisal Bader, an independent candidate, who won the by-election after beating ODMs' Omar Boga.

Feisal garnered 15, 251 votes while Boga got 10,444 votes.
