Form 3 student at a Yatta school in Kitui County

Teen Pregnancies have been on the rise across the country. The Government, however, directed all students back to school despite being pregnant.

A Form 3 student at a Yatta school in Kitui County arrested after performing an abortion to her 8-month-old foetus.

The 17-years-old girl, had Friday lamented of stomach pain, urging the school principal to rush her to the hospital for urgent treatment.

“At the health centre, the student was examined, and said to have conducted an abortion, but was treated and later discharged,” says a DCI report shared on Twitter on Saturday, January 30.

The medical report ignited an intensive search around the school compound, which led to the recovery of a wrapped blue bedsheet thrown in a pit latrine, the DCI said.

The dead foetus confirmed to be male and eight months old. DCI removed the baby from the pit latrine.

“Its neck had a mosquito net wrapped around it,” said the DCI.

“The suspect was immediately arrested, with the recovered body taken to a mortuary for autopsy.”
