Desert locusts in Tigania East, Meru photo

After increasing fuel prices by Sh 8 per litre, residents of Mukwani village, Tigania East in Meru County are crying over the invasion of locusts.

The locusts are said to be moving 150 KM daily towards Kirinyaga county.

Miraa farmers are now crying about huge losses in their farms.

" I usual earn Sh 20,000 monthly from Miraa farming and Sh 15,000 for Muguka as it is not common here. The locust invasion has eaten everything in their farms, "  a farmer from Mukwani village said.

Miraa consumers have been warned that from next week the supply of the product will reduce significantly.

Miraa farming is a lucrative business in Central Kenya especial in Meru county. Muguka is also a lucrative business in Tharaka Nithi and Embu counties.

Agriculture CS Peter Munya says the government will continue fighting the menace across the county.

Another wave of desert locust from Somalia and Ethiopia descended on border counties and razed havoc.
