Heavy shooting reported in the Somali capital, Mogadishu as opposition leaders group resisted a government ban on public meetings and held protests.


Security forces alleged to have closed most roads in the city over the organised protests.


The opposition parties want President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo to leave office after his term ended last week without electing a successor.


According to BBC reporter Bella Hassan reports that there has been heavy gunfire in different parts of the city.


Opposition presidential candidate, Abdirahman Abdishaku, was among those who attempted to start a march.


Security forces shot in the air to scatter some demonstrators.

Former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre says on Facebook that he survived an “assassination attempt”.


The government has not yet mentioned anything concerning the protests and shootings.
